Things I am doing right now

* I am drinking dandelion root tea.
* I am checking my emails, even though I know I've already read them all.
* I am wondering whether I really needed to spend so much money on clothes yesterday.
* I am wondering whether I should catch the train to my hostel in London, and risk getting lost, or take the airport shuttle to my hostel door and pay more than my a night's accomodation for the experience.
* I am stalling until my meeting this morning, which has been pushed back by an hour.
* I am hoping it doesn't rain on Sunday as I'm having a picnic, and I really want it to go ahead
* I am considering sitting on the couch and continuing to read 'Vile Bodeis' by Evelyn Waugh, which is fantastic. I'ld like to finish it before I leave, and I think I will.
* I am trying to upload photos to a website and possibly win some free accomodation in Europe.
* I am checking out my nation on www.nationstates.net.
* I am feeling a little annoyed that there's a new Britrail train pass which focuses on the South East area of England, encompassing all the places I am visiting, which would have saved me about a hundred bucks.
* I have cold feet.
* I am considering having a shower.
* I am considering having breakfast.
* I am trying to decide on which days I should wear my new clothes, or if I should just pack them away for my trip.
* I am hoping that it is actually cold enough in Europe to justify my lovely new coat. Which is very lovely. And wool/ cashmere. And wasn't that expensive.
* I am wondering if I really need to buy thermals, as people keep recommending, or if I can just do lots of layering until spring properly kicks into Europe and the weather warms up.
* I am wondering why the amount spent on my credit card, and the amount left to spend on my credit card do not add up to my credit card total. Maybe some pending purchases to be added on to the spent total???? Confusing.
* I am trying to decide if it is really worth doing bump out for Macbeth, even if I will get paid... and if I change my mind, can I actually get out of it.
* I am noticing the gorgeous sunshine without, and wondering if it is actually colder than in looks out there (I'll bet it is).
* I am wrapping up this blog entry.

What are you doing?

Some responses to some of your wonderings:

    * If you can't have a picnic during a drought, when can you have a picnic? (By the way, I stepped out of my car into a HUGE puddle the other night and then loudly declared that rain is stupid and that I like the drought. I'm waiting for the police to come to my door and arrest me for treason).

    * As its name suggests, I believe they speak English in England. If you feel you can't spare the money for the shuttle bus, try taking the train. You'll be able to read the signs, and, unintelligable accents notwithstanding, you should be able to ask the locals for directions.

*On the question of thermals, I would think I would need them (I'm assuming the temperature will be below 42 degrees!), but I wouldn't want to waste the space, particularly considering the weather will be getting progressively warmer as the summer approaches. So, I would recommend taking leggings. You can wear them underneath pants when you're cold, and underneath skirts when it gets warmer. As for thermal tops, you don't need them if you can layer your tops. Lightweight wool tops are fantastic for this.

By the way, I noticed that the word verification is "syjaq". I think that's just a fancy way of describing Sai on a plane with a gun making demands of the pilot and cabin crew.

    Hi Guys...

Nai, some advice from a guy who lived in London for 3 months.

    - Get the train. Trains in London are pretty easy. But get the shuttle train, not the tube unless you want to spend a LONG time on the train after a flight...

    - Probably don't need thermals becuase you're only there over summer.

    - Go to Stonehenge at Salisbury and then go to the Cathedral. Do not eat Chinese in Salisbury.

    Things I am currently doing:
    1. Not working (though I will be again soon)
    2. Looking forward to the return of the AFL. C'Arn the DEES!!
    3. Wondering what Evan's new house looks like. (He settled today.)
    4. Ennumerating.
    5. Looking forward to family visiting me next week.
    6. Hoping Helen's piano fits into my house. (She's moving in over Easter.)
    7. Blinking my eyes because I'm sleepy and computer screns are bright.
    8. Thinking about my new show: Ros and Guil are Dead
    9. Getting Back to work...

    See ya

    (Have a BLAST in London)

  3. As someone who is currently IN Europe, no, you don't need thermals.

  4. Caroline- I agree re thermals. Oh, and Nick thinks that syjaq-ing is Sai taking over a conversation and steering it towards discussion of something completely unrelated, say, the relative merits of the film Ghostwriter.

Philip- But the direct shuttle train costs 20pound more than the tube. That's what, $40-$50 extra to save an hour? I don't know. I get in at 6.20am, I can afford an hour on the tube. Good luck with the big move-in and the play! Everyone is doing plays I will miss while I'm away... although considering your plays are in Sydney, I guess I am ALWAYS away from them.

Lisa- Thanks for an in-perspective view of the thermals. Although considering you think I might not need a coat (11 degrees maximum all week!!! COLD!), I think you're a little more acclimatised than I am. The lowest Maximum temperature we've had in ages in Melbourne is about 21 degrees. 11 degrees is scary.

  5. You're only in the UK for a few days and everywhere else you're going is so much warmer. 11 degrees without Melbourne wind is actually quite bearable. Plus, Europe is used to cold weather so all the buildings are very well insulated. But, it's up to you how heavy you want your luggage to be...

  6. By the way, you probably do need a coat in 11 degrees, I just didn't think it was necessary to buy a new one if you're stressing about not having enough money for the trip! But if you have the extra cash, that's fine. I certainly don't :(

  7. Hey Lisa! I DON'T have the extra cash... but I DO have a new coat now, so not much to be done! Besides, I didn't really have anything I could bring, nothing warm/ versatile/ packable/ stylish for Paris- enough. Now I do. *sigh* If only that had not meant spending money... but it was on special!!!
