Memo from the Assistant Producer of Macbeth: The Contemporary Rock Opera.
DUDE! I am the afrorementioned AP! What the? I auditioned for a role, was totally nowhere near as good as chicks who still take singing lessons and have performed in pantos and shit in England, but my bogus Theatre resume (all truth, just written so I look awesome) made the producer think I knew heaps of shit and here I am. Woah. I hope I don't cock-up big time.
Oh yeah. It's unpaid. Of course.
But I also start a new job on Friday, as general shitkicker (sorry, Student Services Officer. Whatever) for Victorian Institute of Technology. I hope this was a good idea. At least I'll get paid for Christmas.

Working for a University (even admin) is great - highly recommended. Much more laidback than corporate environments. And congratulations on your AP role! Volunteers will take over the world, yeah! ...once we can get the money together. Oh, and find TIME to take over the world. Yeah.
ReplyDeleteHey Lise! Technically it's not a university, it's an Higher Education College, or something. And sadly this won't be laidback, as I am the only SSO, so ALL SSO work is my responsibility. I'm hoping that the fact that I can be pretty organised might mean it is less stressful for me than previous SSOs.
ReplyDeleteI am very excited about the Macbeth role... also absolutely terrified!
I'm sure you'll be fine as AP, but it depends on how organised the Producer and the rest of the team are. Nothing worse than getting a call a week before the show starts and being told: a) no sets, props or costumes have been sourced; b) there's a firetruck outside the theatre space; or c) the stage manager's having a nervous breakdown. What memories.

ReplyDeleteHmmm, which memory are you talking about? :)
All of them! 2001 was a great year.
